United arrived at The Emirates to play an in-form Arsenal side but United’s failure to beat another ‘Big Six’ team had The Red Devils ending a disappointing week further off the pace at the top of the table.

The game took a while to get going and was forced to wait till the 20th minute when Fred’s looping effort was denied by a good save by Bernd Leno with the German clawing wide.

United saw two chances go by late in the first half. Aaron Wan-Bissaka heading wide before Bruno Fernandes’ shot whipped wide of Leno’s far post, David Luiz then deflected Fernandes’ goal-bound free-kick just over the bar in added time.

Arsenal went closest to taking the lead when Alexandre Lacazette’s free-kick bounced back off the crossbar with David De Gea rooted.

United and Edinson Cavani did however have two big chances to win the game. The first from a Luke Shaw cross which Cavani couldn’t turn goalwards, before the final chance of the game fell to Cavani again. Wan-Bissaka’s cross found the Uruguayan whose acrobatic effort went just wide of the target to leave the match scoreless.

United play their third game in a week against Southampton on Tuesday looking to find a much-needed win to keep up with City. Arsenal travel to struggling Wolves looking to pick up more points on their surge back up the table.
