The Swiss have had an imposing world cup campaign so far, winning their fixtures against Cameroon and a replenished Serbian side in a gripping battle against the latter. 

Switzerland is now set to face their most arduous test yet when they meet the Portuguese in a winner take all encounter for a spot in the quarter-finals of the 2022 edition of the world cup. 

The pair have already met each other twice this year. This will be the third meeting between the two countries in 2022, having faced each other in the UEFA Nations League in June. Portugal won 4-0 in a match played in Lisbon, before Switzerland won 1-0 in Geneva a week later.

Rossocrociati will look to veterans Xherdan Shaqiri and Granit Xhaka to lead them as they face a technical challenge in front of them in the form of Portugal. Shaqiri’s playmaking from the right will be pivotal in breaking down the Portuguese defense.
