Manchester United must beat Real Sociedad at the Anoeta Stadium by two clear goals to top Group E in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The Reds lost 0-1 to the Spanish side at Old Trafford in September, now trail them by three points and hope to go straight through to the round of 16.

Manager Erik ten Hag said during the pre-match presser in San Sebastian: “Jadon Sancho was ill and Anthony Martial is still in recovery.

“He is in rehab, he has to finish that.”

Imanol Alguacil’s men simply need to avoid defeat to win the group as they look to recover from back-to-back domestic defeats.

The Spanish coach told Europa Press: “Being able to beat Manchester United and being first is amazing.”

The runner-ups of Europe’s secondary competition have to play an additional two-round play-offs against a possible Champions League drop out.

Sociedad head into the final matchday as the only team in this season’s Europa League to have won all five of their group matches so far.

United have scored in each of their last 12 Europa matches away from home since October 2019, and thrashed La Real 4-0 in the Basque Country during last season’s last-32.

Real Sociedad Remiro, Gorosabel, Le Normand, Pacheco, Rico, Mendez, Zubimendi, Merino, Marin, Sorloth, Carlos Fernandez.

Manchester United De Gea, Dalot, Lindelöf, Martínez, Shaw, Casemiro, Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes, van de Beek, Garnacho, Cristiano Ronaldo
