Home   /   Premier League Preview: Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

Ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash, I (@alexmitton10) looked back at Liverpool’s heart-breaking 3-3 draw with Crystal Palace in 2014, which all but ended their title hopes.

Crystal Palace had little to play for before the game, with their Premier League survival already guaranteed. Liverpool needed to win to keep up their title hopes, but 3 late Eagles’ goals sent Liverpool away heartbroken.

The Reds’ wait for a Premier League title continued, with Luis Suarez famously crying at the full-time whistle.

“We needed to win today to keep the pressure on. It’s bitterly disappointing,” Brendan Rodgers told BBC Sport.

“There is no doubt Manchester City will go on and win. It’s a young group of players. We need to manage to see games out better. You’ve got to be able to see out a 3-0 if you want to challenge for the title.”

This weekend, Wilfried Zaha (hamstring injury) looks set to be unavailable for the hosts, while Joel Ward (calf injury) should return. For the visitors, Thiago (unknown injury), Luis Diaz (knee injury) and Ibrahima Konate (hamstring injury) look set to miss out.

Liverpool need a win to increase their chances of finishing in the top four. Consecutive wins in recent weeks has seen them close the gap to the top of the table. In contrast, Crystal Palace are without a win in 2023. Kick off is at 19:45PM GMT on Saturday.
