Early in the season and already a massive clash, Manchester United will host Arsenal at the Leigh Sports village, two of last season’s top 3.

Both sides had contrasting results in the Women’s Super league opener. Manchester United came from behind in the last minute and snatch a 2-1 win against Aston Villa. Arsenal suffered a shocking 1-0 loss to Liverpool.

In the press conference, Manchester United’s boss Mark Skinner gave an update on the team’s news. He said, “Everyone is fit for selection expect Aoife [Mannion] and Emma [Watson].”

The last time they faced each other at the Leigh sports village, Manchester United won the match 1-0 from Alessia Russo.

The 24-year-old striker is the focus for this fixture as she now plays for Arsenal having joined in the summer from Manchester United as a free agent.

She will face off against her former teammate and best friend Ella Toone. Through their social media accounts, they express their strong 12-year friendships spanning back to England youth teams.

Toone was asked during a McDonald’s campaign about the prospect of facing her best friend. She said, “I basically just told her [Russo] I will not speak to you before the game.”

The match will be shown on Sky Sports at 7:30pm.
