Second half goals from Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood cancel out Danny Welbeck’s 12th minute strike as Manchester United take all three points at Old Trafford.

Greenwood scored the winning goal just seven minutes from time as he got on the end of Paul Pogba’s miscued volley which fell nicely for the 19 year old as he stooped low to guide his header past Robert Sánchez in the Brighton goal.

The visitors made the breakthrough early on through Danny Welbeck on his return to his former side as he nodded home the rebound from his initial goal-bound effort to become the first former United player to score three goals against his former employer.

Brighton were the better team in the first half but the home side came out with more authority in the second half and were rewarded with the equaliser that ultimately set up the comeback when Marcus Rashford was played in by Bruno Fernandes with the Englishman able to place the ball past the onrushing Sánchez.

Brighton had chances to go into half time with more than just the one goal advantage as they looked to take advantage of the set-pieces they were given. Their best chance came in the form of Lewis Dunk as his header was directed towards goal and clipped the crossbar on the way over.

This result means that the Red Devils currently sit 11 points clear of Tottenham Hotspur in fifth place, who they play in their next Premier League fixture. Brighton still remain six points clear of the relegation places but may feel that this was a wasted opportunity to potentially pick up points in a game they weren’t expected to.
