On Monday evening Everton is playing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in what is going to be a pivotal game in deciding the Champions League places at the end of the season.

In this fixture last year Chelsea defeated Everton 4-0, the game took place one exact year to the fixture this year (8th March 2020). Chelsea completely dominated the game with goals from Mason Mount, Pedro, Willian and Olivier Giroud. When the two sides played each other earlier in the season the Toffees won 1-0 thanks to a penalty from Gylfi Sigurðsson. A lot has changed for Chelsea since then due to the sacking on their manager Frank Lampard in January 2021. Since then Thomas Tuchel has became Chelsea manager and the west London side is yet to lose a game since the German manager took charge.

Currently Everton are fifth in the league table one point behind Chelsea with a game in hand. Going into the game Everton has won three games in a row without conceding a goal, in their most recent game they defeated West Brom 1-0 thanks to a goal from Richarlison. Chelsea are also in good form unbeaten since January. In Chelsea’s most recent fixture they defeated the current Premier League champions Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield, with Mount scoring the winner.

Thiago Silva might be back for Chelsea who has been back training with his team during the week after being injured with a hamstring injury. The Brazilian centre back hasn’t played since early February. James Rodríguez, Tom Davies and Séamus Coleman are doubts for the game as all three players have missed the last two games for Everton. The Toffees will be without Yerry Mina and Fabien Delph.

Everton haven’t defeated Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in 25 games Premier League games. If Everton can win they will achieve their first double over Chelsea in the league since the 1978-79 season. Also, if Everton win Carlo Ancelotti will become the first manager to defeat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League, who as previously managed the club. If Chelsea can get a clean sheet Tuchel will become the first manager in Premier League history to get a clean sheet in his first five home games.
