BRIGHTON ROADS ARE DANGEROUS FOR CYCLIST

Brighton and Hove is the tenth most dangerous metropolis for cyclists in the United Kingdom.

Some drivers say cycling is good for physical health and environmental well-being, but increasing congestion in cycle lanes makes access harder. Many riders and residents feel Brighton Roads must be safer for cyclists.

Santhosh, a care worker, said, “I cycle at weekends. Most people occupy cycle lanes instead of using footpaths. It’s quite awful and disturbing due to which I stopped riding cycling”.

In the city, cyclists are more likely to experience bad road conditions and steep walkways, of which fewer than half have adequate lighting.

Cycling on the long seafront is best for Brighton, but the town centres are scary. Tim Stevens,56, who lives in Hove, said, “I cycle most days, not every day.

“Cycling is quicker and cheaper than the bus; it is good for my health and environmental well-being”.

The cyclists who spoke to the paper are scared and disturbed because of the poor structure of cycle lanes.
