Late goals from Newcastle’s strike-pair Callum Wilson and Joelinton secured three crucial points for Newcastle against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

A game where chances were few and far between, Newcastle rallied around in the last three minutes of normal time as Joelinton setup Callum Wilson for the opener, and the England international returned the favour as Joelinton netted via a deflection off Gary Cahill.

Roy Hodgson’s side looked the more likely to grab the three points as they missed a few openings. Christian Benteke – who came on as a second-half substitute – forced a good save from Karl Darlow in the Newcastle before Cheikou Kouyate had a shot crucially blocked by Federico Fernandez.

Crystal Palace mustered up another opportunity 10 minutes from time when left-back Patrick Van Aanholt dragged a shot wide.

Newcastle’s quality shone through in the end as two quick breaks from Callum Wilson and Joelinton secured the three points for Steve Bruce’s side.
