Chelsea and Manchester United put on a show for a record-breaking crowd at Leigh Sports Village this evening in the Women’s Super League with the match ending 3-1 to Chelsea.
Lauren James was crowned the player of the match this evening as she managed to score a goal against her former club.
Despite Man United losing three goals to one James still praised her old team as she said to Sky Sports: “I thought Man United put on a tough game for us.” When asked about how she felt when she scored Chelsea’s second goal of the evening she said: “It was bittersweet.”
Most of the record-breaking crowd at Leigh Sports Village would have left feeling disappointed this evening, but Head Coach Marc Skinner was quick to praise the United fans. When asked by Sky Sports about the crowd, he said: “They’re the best fans in the country by far.”
This result for United has knocked them off the top of the table with Arsenal and Chelsea now ahead of them. Skinner explained post-match why he believed Chelsea managed to beat his team tonight saying: “They were just quicker and sharper at times and that’s why they got the goals.”
