Home   /   The reality of bodybuilding as a student – John Cancea ft Goerge Elder

John Cancea is a full-time student at the University of Brighton but will be competing at the FitX bodybuilding show in Birmingham, this Sunday. At just 20 years of age, Cancea gave his insight into how he balances a life of many commitments.

‘It’s a lot, I’ll give you that. But I wouldn’t be doing it if I didn’t enjoy it,’ said Cancea. ‘It’s a lot to take on, but as long as I structure myself properly throughout the day, I find that it is manageable.’

‘It does get quite a lot sometimes with the amount of university work I have to do. But once that’s out of the way, I’ll have a lot less stress on me basically.’ Said Cancea, who is now at the final stages of a long preparation for three shows this summer whilst also enduring the end of his second year at university.

Personal Trainer, Goerge Elder has been coaching people for seven years now and was willing to give his insight into the motivation behind his fitness and Cancea’s.

‘People are always talking about motivation and why they want to go to the gym but they aren’t motivated. Whereas, for me, I don’t need that motivation,’ stated Elder, who has trained for over a decade. ‘It’s built into my routine and habits.’

‘If you get into fitness purely for bodybuilding and aesthetics all for the placement of a trophy, you might lose that motivation and it could be the biggest battle you face.’
