Home   /   Taylor moves Lewes up to a play-off spot – Lewes 5-0 Leatherhead

Lewes continue their positive moment with a comfortable win over last-placed Leatherhead. Joe Taylor was the main man for the Rooks, scoring two goals, assisting one and getting captain Ryan Huckle sent off.

The game started with Lewes proving dangerous down the left, with Tom Carlse and Ollie Tanner. The winger came close to scoring three times in the first minutes, but was denied by Myles Bowman and his lack of precision.

Leatherhead remained in contention and had the chance to go in front when Chibudem Onokwai tried a long effort, which Lewis Carey did very well to keep out.

Just when it looked like balance could hold, the ever-present Joe Taylor made it 1-0. Lewes’s No. 9 picked up a deflected pass by Razz Coleman De-Graft and scored after hitting the bar.

The game changed. Just minutes later, Taylor ran behind the defence and was taken down by Huckle, who was shown a red card. Things for Leatherhead worsened completely when in-form Taylor Maloney converted the free-kick to send Lewes up by two at half-time. it’s the midfielder’s seventh goal in the last six games.

A long and painful second-half awaited 10 men Leatherhead. Bradley Pritchard made it 3-0 after Taylor set him up. The striker later deflected in a header from Matt Weaire to score his second of the night.

Tanner will have been disappointed not to score. The winger was dangerous all throughout, but Bowman stopped him twice more. His third second-half effort came after an irresistible run, but the No. 7 clipped the post, only for Iffy Allen to tap it in just minutes after coming on.

Lewes move up to third with 20 points in 10 games, whilst the visitors remain last with four in 11 games. Things look bad for Leatherhead, whose rivals in front have at least two games in hand.
