Ten Hag’s side made the initial breakthrough against the run of play as man in-form Scott Mctominay sweetly controlled a pass from Bruno Fernandes and dispatched the ball past Wes Fodderingham with the help of a deflection just before the half an hour mark.
Sheffield United had been applying immense pressure to the away side before they were pegged back but provided an instant response to the Scotsman’s opener. Mctominay was heavily involved once more as he handled a cross from Manchester City Loanee James Mcatee and gave referee Michael Oliver no choice but to award a penalty. Ollie Mcburnie stepped up and smashed the spot kick into the top corner on 34 minutes. Bruno Fernandes came closest to giving one of the sides an advantage at the halfway point as his Freekick bruised the crossbar in added time at the end of the first half. It was level at the break with the Blades dominating on home turf.
Paul Heckingbottom’s side continued to battle in the second half but the red devils got their noses in front late on through an unlikely source. Victor Lindelof fizzed the ball into Diogo Dalot and he curled the ball into the top corner from 25 yards out with only his second goal for Manchester United in the Premeir League since his move from Porto in 2018.
The away side managed to see off any potential threat from a resilient Sheffield United to confirm their second league win on the bounce as they move up to eighth in the table still five points off the champions league places. The Blades however are still winless in the Premier League this season and that’s four straight losses leaving them last with only one point after nine games, the worst record after so many games in Premier League history.Embed from Getty Images
