Home   /   Salah’s first half brace sees off injury-hit Spurs

Mohamed Salah’s first half double was enough to see off a bit-part Tottenham Hotspur side as Liverpool won 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Egyptian put the visitors ahead after only eleven minutes and capitalised on an Eric Dier mistake with an impressive finish to double the Red’s lead five minutes before the break.

Harry Kane struck half-way through the second half to give Spurs a foothold in the game but it was not enough to prevent Liverpool from winning their first away league game of the season.

Spurs are now winless in their previous eleven meetings with Jurgen Klopp’s side dating back to their 4-1 victory at Wembley Stadium in October 2017.

The win ended Liverpool’s run of consecutive league defeats and moved them up to eighth place in the league table as they look to make up ground in the race for the top four.

Although they remain inside the Champions League positions, the defeat meant that Spurs sacrificed third position to high-flying Newcastle United and fell even further behind Arsenal and Manchester City at the league’s summit.

Spurs travel to Leeds United for their final league match before the World Cup break whilst Liverpool welcome Southampton to Anfield.
