The Citizens drew level through Rico Lewis after 52 minutes. The Manchester City academy product emphatically met an Alvarez through ball, rifling past Yassine Bounou at the near post. The fullback’s goal on his first senior start makes him Manchester City’s youngest Champions League goal scorer.  The Bury-born fullback has been at the club since the age of eight.

Julian Alvarez put the home side ahead after 73 minutes. The Argentine collected a sumptuous, arrowed pass from substitute Kevin De Bruyne before rounding Bounou and firing into the roof of the net. The silky Belgian creator had only been on the pitch for three minutes before supplying Alvarez.

Manchester City completed the rout with Riyad Mahrez thumping home past Yassine Bounou after 83 minutes. The chance came after Alvarez dispossessed Jose Angel Carmona, before selflessly feeding the Algerian, who made no mistake.

Rafa Mir had nodded the visitors in front after half an hour, sending the away fans into raptures.  The ex-Wolves frontman ghosted in at the back post to meet a floated Isco corner, looping his effort over Stefan Ortega in the City goal.
