Home   /   Moriyasu says Japan “have to improve” following defeat to Costa Rica

Japan recorded their first defeat at the 2022 World Cup following Keysher Fuller’s 81st minute strike. When asked his thoughts on the game Hijame Moriyasu said:

“Apart from the goal, it was the game I expected. We had the chances, but we didn’t take them, I’m sorry we didn’t win. Against Spain we will give our best and try to limit their potential”.

“We have to improve, that’s what we have to do now. Today we try not to concede a goal. The first half was not very showy, but I think we controlled the game and in the second half we had a lot more possession of the ball. But that was not enough. We thought we were going to win; but they beat us,” Moriyasu said.

Japan’s defeat means their final group game against Spain becomes very important now Group E has become more open.

“We lost this game, but we have another one left and what we have to do from now on is prepare it in the best possible way,” said the Japanese coach.

Keysher Fuller scored the winner that led Costa Rica to victory in the 81st minute, with the goal being Costa Rica’s first shot on target of the tournament.
