Prediction: Manchester United 1-0 West Ham United
An important matchup in context of the Premier League top four race as second placed Manchester United take on a resurgent West Ham United side at Old Trafford on Sunday evening.
The home side have been inconsistent of late in the league, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side winning just twice in their last six games, a run which includes draws to Everton, Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion.
However, they will have been encouraged by their performance in their last Premier League game against Manchester City, which saw the Red Devils come out 2-0 winners, a result which put an end to City’s 21-game winning streak.
David Moyes finds his side in a great position to quality for the Europa League and potentially even more if they can continue their strong form until the end of the season. The Hammers are winless in their last 12 visits to Old Trafford but the former Manchester United manager will feel this is a big opportunity to put an end to that run.
Manchester United will be looking complete a league double over West Ham, with the last coming predictably, back in the 2013/14 campaign, when Moyes was the helm at the Theatre of Dreams.
Solskjaer has confirmed that Anthony Martial will be out of Sunday’s clash after picking up an injury against AC Milan in midweek. The hosts will still be without Marcus Rashford and Edinson Cavani which will likely mean the United manager will have to make do with an inexperienced front line.
The visitors will be without Jesse Lingard who is on loan from Manchester United and therefore is ineligible to play against his parent club. David Moyes’ side could also be without the services of Arthur Masuaku, Ryan Fredericks, Angelo Ogbonna and Andriy Yarmolenko who were all side lined against Leeds United.
