City were five points behind United coming into this one but really showed their quality with a diminutive first half display.

In under ten minutes City had the lead thanks to a deaf Chloe Kelly flick. United didn’t deal with the corner and had multiple chances to clear and City made them pay.

Just before half time City had doubled their lead, this time through Laura Coombs. The ball fell to the midfielder 20 yards out and she dispatched her effort into the top corner.

United did come out fighting in the 2nd half, Tobin Heath got her side back in it with a great strike in the 54th minute after a defensive mix up.

The substitute Kirsty Hanson got United level on 74 minutes from close range. Ellie Roebuck saved the first effort but couldn’t deny her again.

With just minutes remaining United had the ball cleared off the line from a deep corner which was headed goal wards by Ona Batlle Pascual.

United had chances before the equaliser with substitute Lauren James coming close after some good foot work in the City penalty area. Molly Turner also went close from a corner but brave City defending denied her.

Georgia Stanway was proving a constant threat for City down the left side and should have had her name on the score sheet, with an effort denied from close range and another just edging past the post.
