Home   /   Late deflection Rescues Hawks a Point

An 82nd minute Charlie Lambert equalizer salvaged a 1-1 draw for Whitehawk against Haringey Borough at Coles Park.

In an affair in which Haringey dealt pressure on the Whitehawk backline, Keeper Mitch Robinson was forced into action various times.

Whitehawk did have chances in the first half however, with forward Rob O’Toole seeing his shot saved and Charlie Harris whistling his shot just past the post.

After a goalless first half, it was Haringey who opened the scoring shortly after the break, with defender J’Ardell Stirling powering in a header from a cross shortly following a corner.

Whitehawk manager Shaun Saunders decided to then rely on a change in personnel and formation following the goal, with Lambert, Joel Daly and Imran Kayani coming on and a change in formation to a 4-3-3.

The substitutes finally paid off when in the 83rd minute Lambert lashed a shot from range, with the deflection lifting the ball above Dillon Barnes for his 12th goal of the season.

Despite a late push from Whitehawk it was a point apiece in the end for both teams, a valuable point for the Hawks to take on the road and a needed point for Haringey in their relegation battle.

Whitehawk stays in 15th but has now moved a point above Cray Wanderers and Folkestone Invicta and are now a point behind Potters Bar Town in 14th

Haringey moves above Concord to 21st in the table but are 4 points from safety.
