Home   /   Iran beat Wales in injury time

The match 17 of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar marked one of the most dramatic ones as Iran managed to earn a late win over Wales in Group B. Despite the first disastrous defeat against England on Monday, Iran team were able to bounce back as they started their second game confidently against Wales. They scored a goal in 16th minute of the game which was disallowed by VAR due to offside. Iran continued to create chances on the opponent’s goal, and they were unlucky not to score, especially on an occasion just minutes into the second half where Azmoun and Gholizadeh hit the right and left post within a couple of seconds.

This was not honestly the best performance of Wales as Gareth Bale and his teammates looked unconcentrated and not willing enough to approach Iran’s goal. It was 86th minute when the situation became even worse for Wales as Wayne Hennessey was shown the first red card of 2022 World Cup after a reckless foul on Taremi. This gave Iran more confidence to win the game, and they did so through two injury time goals in 90+8th  and 90+11th minute of the game.
