Today is the second day of the first Test between India and England. Yesterday Joe Root was the star for England scoring a fantastic century on his 100th Test match. England are 363-3 going into todays game.

Root and his new partner Ben Stokes are coming out now to start todays play. Jasprit Bumrah is going to bowl the first few balls and finish his over from yesterday.

90th over: This over was between two days due to the wicket of Dominic Sibley at the end of yesterdays play. Stokes was able to survive his first few ball today. Root 128, Stokes 0. England 263-3.

Ravichandran Ashwin is going to start today bowling opposite Bumrah.

91st over: Root and Stokes are getting through their first few balls making sure they get their eye in before they start playing more expansive shots. Root 129, Stokes 0. England 264.

92nd over: Stokes gets his first boundary with a beautiful shot down to the third man boundary. Just before Bumrah almost got him with a yorker. Root 130, Stokes 4. England 269-3.

93rd over: Another solid over for England defending Ashwin spin. The spinner is now going around the wicket like he did to dismiss Rory Burns yesterday. Root 131, Stokes 4. England 270-3.

94th over: Root is able to get his first boundary today in the over where he played the ball late and got the ball through mid-wicket for four. Root knows his needs a huge score for his side. Root 135, Stokes 4. England 274-3.

95th over: Six runs scored in the over thanks to a magnificent shot from Stokes hitting the spinner for six. The shot was a surprise to everyone, Stokes with his first six in the innings. Root 135, Stokes 10. England 280-3.

96th over: First maiden today as Root defended out the over from the bowling of Bumrah. Root 135, Stokes 10. England 280-3.

97th over: Another maiden for India this time for Ashwin after in the last over he got hit for a six. Root 135, Stokes 10. England 280-3.

Ishant Sharma into the bowling attack for India for the first time today.

98th over: Another maiden for India as England haven’t scored a run for three overs now and pressure will now be building. The England batsman aren’t taking too many risks at the moment as they know how important this partnership is. Root 135, Stokes 10. England 280-3.

99th over: Good over for the two England batsmen as they both got singles in the over. This is important in this session where England need to wear down the Indian bowlers. Root 136, Stokes 11. England 282-3

100th over: Another over where both the England batsman scored a run in the over. England are looking to play attritional cricket. Root 137, Stokes 12. England 284-3

101st over: Good over for England as Stokes is looking to take on Ashwin and score runs off the spinner, who has dismissed him more than anyone else in Test cricket. Root 138, Stokes 17. England 290-3

102nd over: Sharma is able to get a maiden for his side which helps slow down the right rate. Root 138, Stokes 17. England 290-3

Shahbaz Nadeem is now going to bowl for India.

103rd over: As soon as either Ashwin, Bumrah or Sharma are not bowling the England batsman start to become more expansive and look to score runs. Stokes pulled out a reverse sweep with the first ball in the over and Root was able to get a boundary. Root 142, Stokes 18. England 295-3

104th over: Good over for Stokes as he got two boundaries with the first two balls in the over. Stokes is looking confident considering he hasn’t played Test cricket since August 2020. Root 142, Stokes 26. England 303-3.

105th over: Five runs in the over for England as Root is getting closer to 150 runs. Root was also able to maintain the strike at the end of the over. Root 144, Stokes 29. England 308-3.

Ashwin back in for India.

106th over: Both batsman are looking settled this morning for England as they are both looking to score. Root 145, Stokes 30. England 310-3.

107th over: Another over where both batsmen scored runs in the over. Root and Stokes partnership is getting close to 50 runs. Root 146, Stokes 31. England 312-3.

50 PARTNERSHIP FOR ENGLAND: Root and Stokes have reached their 50 partnership.

REVIEW FOR INDIA: India are reviewing the umpires decision from LBW as Stokes missed a reverse sweep.

The ball clearly hit the batsman glove and Stokes remains at the crease.

108th over: Stokes survived a review in the over after trying to play reverse sweeps in the over. Root 147, Stokes 31. England 313-3.

REVIEW FOR INDIA: Kohli reviews again for LBW.

India lose another review as the ball was going over the stumps.

109th over: Good over from Nadeem as both batsmen struggle in the over dealing with the bounce on the ball with the ball spinning out the rough. Root 148, Stokes 31. England 314-3.

DROPPED CATCH: Ashwin had a chance for a caught and bowled with one hand but couldn’t hold on to the ball.

110th over: Both batsmen were able to score a run in the over. Stokes is being very aggressive at the moment and will need to focus again so he doesn’t lose his wicket. Root 149, Stokes 32. England 316-3.

150 RUNS FOR ROOT: England captain has got 150 runs and is looking strong.

111th over: Brilliant over for England as Root reached 150 runs in the over and England score 10 runs in the over thanks to a six from Stokes. England will be happy with how things have gone in this over. Root 150, Stokes 41. England 326-3.

112th over: India had a chance to run out Root in the over but didn’t take to opportunity. Both batsmen was able to score and Stokes is getting closer to his half century. Root 151, Stokes 42. England 328-3.

HALF CENTURY FOR STOKES: Stokes has reached his half-century and is looking strong right now for his side.

113th over: Stokes was able to score two boundaries with reverse sweeps in the over to help bring up his half century. Root 151, Stokes 50. England 336-3

114th over: England know Ashwin is the more dangerous spin bowler so they are not as expansive when he is bowling. Root 152, Stokes 50. England 337-3

Washington Sundar is now bowling for India for the first time today.

115th over: Good first over from the young spinner as England only score one run in the over. Not long left in the session now for England as they will hope not to lose any wickets. Root 153, Stokes 50. England 338-3

Bumrah is bowling again for his team today.

116th over: Good over for England as both the English batsmen was able to defend yorkers from Bumrah. Root 154, Stokes 51. England 340-3.

117th over: Stokes was able to get two more boundaries in the over as he is putting a lot of pressure on India. Root 154, Stokes 59. England 348-3.

118th over: Stokes is looking really good today now as he was able to clip the ball for a boundary off Bumrah. This England partnership is getting close to 100 runs. Root 155, Stokes 63. England 354-3.

119th over: Final over off the session as both the England batsmen survived the over and the entire session. Root 156, Stokes 63. England 356-3.

Good session for England as both batsmen are still in as the away side will be eyeing up a huge total that they can defend. India had a few chance to get the England batsmen out but couldn’t take the chances.

Both sides are coming out for the afternoon session. England will hope to continue from where they left off.

120th over: Good first over for England as they was able to score two runs which included one leg bye. England will defend the first few overs in the session then become more expansive. Root 156, Stokes 64. England 357-3.

100 RUN PARTNERSHIP: Root and Stokes have reached 100 runs as a partnership.

121st over: Root was able to score his first boundary in the session during the over hitting the ball through point. England was able to score six runs in the over. Both batsmen are very aggressive when Nadeem is bowling. Root 161, Stokes 65. England 363-3.

122nd over: Root able to score two runs in the over and is getting closer to his double century. Sharma hasn’t taken a wicket for his side however he isn’t going for many runs. Root 163, Stokes 65. England 365-3.

123rd over: Stokes gets another six in the over and puts India under more pressure. Stokes has now scored three sixes in the innings. Nadeem has been very expensive today. Root 164, Stokes 72. England 373-3.

Bumrah back in the attack for India. Kohli is hoping he get break this partnership.

124th over: Bumrah tried a slower ball yorker but Stokes was able to hit the ball for a boundary. The Indian’s may be running out of ideas. Root 165, Stokes 76. England 378-3.

125th over: Good running from both the batsmen as they are manipulating the field as they are getting singles and increasing the run rate. Root 168, Stokes 79. England 384-3.

126th over: Bumrah is trying bouncers and yorkers to disrupt the England batsman. Root 168, Stokes 82. England 387-3.

WICKET FOR INDIA: Stokes is out after trying to get another boundary but was caught out on the boundary by Cheteshwar Pujara who almost dropped it. Stokes out for 82 bowled Nadeem caught Pujara.

Ollie Pope is now in for England.

127th over: India was able to break the partnership in the over as Stokes lost his wicket. Pope was able to score his first run with a boundary as England look to recover after losing the wicket. Root 169, Pope 4. England 392-4

128th over: Bumrah is putting the pressure on Pope early in his innings but the young batsman has responded well and is still in his innings. Root 170, Pope 4. England 393-4

129th over: Pope looking tentative in his innings early on. India will be putting him under pressure as this is the first time he is playing since he injured his shoulder against Pakistan. Root 171, Pope 4. England 395-4

130th over: Pope is doing a good job defending the Indian bowling attack early on in his innings as he is facing the majority off the balls at the moment. Root 172, Pope 4. England 396-4

132nd over: Another over where England only scored one run and Pope defended a lot of balls. Since the wicket of Stokes the England run rate has slowed down. Root 175, Pope 5. England 400-4.

133rd over: Root has maintained the strike, scoring the only run in the over with the last ball in the over. Root 176, Pope 5. England 401-4.

Washington Sundar is now bowling for India hoping he can improve on how he has played so far in this game.

134th over: Both batsmen scored a run in the over as Pope may start to open up soon as he has face a decent number of balls now. Root 177, Pope 6. England 403-4.

135th over: England’s run rate has slowed down a lot since Stokes has got out. Root and Pope has been very patient since the partnership started. Root 177, Pope 7. England 403-4.

138th over: Pope is able to get another boundary in the over as his confidence will be growing. The young batsmen averages over 55 runs in first class cricket and has a lot of potential. Root 183, Pope 11. England 415-4.

139th over: England don’t lose any wickets in the over after Pope survived a review. Pope is facing a lot of the ball at the moment helping his captain rest due to him batting for a very long time. Root 184, Pope 11. England 416-4.

140th over: England score four singles in the over as both the batsmen were able to rotate the strike well in the over. The England captain was able to score a boundary in the over as well. Root 190, Pope 13. England 424-4.

141st over: Another over where both the English batsmen did well in rotating the strike. Root getting closer to a double century. Root 192, Pope 15. England 429-4.

142nd over: Root is slowly edging towards a double century. India have a loud LBW appeal with the last ball in the over which was turned down by the umpire. India have not got a review left in the innings. Root 194, Pope 16. England 431-4.

DOUBLE CENTURY FOR JOE ROOT: Brilliant innings from the England captain and brings up his double hundred with a six.

143rd over: In the over Root and Pope reached their 50 partnership but the main focus is Root who reached his double century. Brilliant over for England as well scoring nine runs in the over. Root 202, Pope 17. England 440-4.

144th over: England are now able to score runs more freely. Pope is looking comfortable out on the field at the moment. Root 204, Pope 20. England 445-4.

India are now trying Rohit Sharma seeing if he can take a wicket.

145th over: Both the England batsmen were able to score singles in the over and rotate the strike well. Kohli will be feeling the pressure and know the side will have to do something special to get a wicket. Root 206, Pope 22. England 449-4.

146th over: Both the England batsmen score singles in the over and are hoping they can all survive past this session. Root 207, Pope 23. England 451-4.

Good session for England only losing the wicket of Stokes. In the session Root was able to bring up his double century with Pope supporting him well in the game.

Ashwin is bowling from the other end at the start of this session.

154th over: Big over for India getting rid of the England captain and they will want to get rid of the rest of the England side with the time left in the day. Buttler 4. England 478-6

155th over: Bess survived his first few ball in the game and India will feel like they have an opportunity to get another wicket. Buttler 4, Bess 0 England 478-6

157th over: Buttler scored the only run in the over which means he is maintaining the strike for the next over. Buttler 6, Bess 1 England 482-6

171st over: England scored two runs in the over as India will feel like they can bowl England out before the end of the day. Bess 18, Leach 2. England 530-8.

172nd over: Maiden over by Ishant who has been very impressive in the entire innings. He is one wicket away from taking 300 Test wickets for India. Bess 18, Leach 2. England 530-8.

173rd over: Bess is getting some valuable runs for his team as they are looking to bat for as long as possible. Bess 19, Leach 2. England 531-8.

174th over: England score five runs in the over all of them are from leg byes. India are looking to finish the innings today. Bess 19, Leach 2. England 536-8.

DROPPED CATCH: Huge chance for India to get the wicket of Bess. Rohit was the man who shelled the catch which meant Bess is still in.

175th over: Washington Sundar almost got his first wicket off the innings in the over but the opportunity was dropped by Rohit. Bess is lucky to still be batting after giving the home side an opportunity to get him out. Bess 20, Leach 2. England 537-8.

176th over: Bess was able to score another boundary in the over and increase England’s first innings score. Bess 24, Leach 2. England 541-8.

177th over: Leach is now showing his batting ability as he ran down the ground and scored a boundary. India will be frustrated with how this partnership is going right now. Bess 24, Leach 6. England 545-8.

178th over: Bess was able to score another boundary as India will be very annoyed with how things have gone since their last two wickets. England will be happy with their first innings score. Bess 28, Leach 6. England 549-8.

Another good day of Test cricket for England with Joe Root’s double century being the highlight. Stokes was a good support act today with 82 runs. India will be frustrated with how things went today. England have almost certainly guaranteed that they won’t lose this match. Going into tomorrows play India know they will bat and they will need to bat for as long as possible if they are not going to lose.
