Today is the first day of the first Test between India and England in Chennai.

England have won the toss and Joe Root has decided to bat first. This is Joe Root’s 100th test match for England. Rory Burns, Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer are back in the side after missing the Sri Lanka series. Zak Crawley is out for the first two Tests with a wrist injury.

India have gone with three spinners in their side and Virat Kohli is back in the team after missing most of the Australia series. India will be very confident after winning the series in Australia and are playing back in their home country.

Rory Burns and Dominic Sibley are coming out for England to open the batting. Ishant Sharma is going to opening the bowling for India.

1st over: Good first over from Sharma as he was getting the England players to defend the ball and make them play. Burns was able to score his first run in the game after returning to the side. Burns 1, Sibley 0. England 1-0

Jasprit Bumrah is going to bowl at the other end for India.

DROPPED CATCH: First chance for India to get a wicket with Burns flicking the ball down the leg side but Rishabh Pant couldn’t hold on to the ball.

2nd over: Burns is able to survive flicking the ball down the leg side on Bumrah’s first ball. Burns 2, Sibley 0. England 2-0.

3rd over: Good over for England with Burns able to score three runs in the over and Sibley was able to get off the mark. Sibley was able to keep the strike at the end of the over. Burns 5, Sibley 1. England 6-0.

4th over: Good first few overs for England as the openers were able to score runs and rotate the strike. A lot of attention is being made at Bumrah’s bowling action. Burns 7, Sibley 2. England 9-0.

5th over: Good over from Sharma only going for one run which was a no ball. The last ball in the over just missed the outside edge of Sibley’s bat. Burns 7, Sibley 2. England 10-0.

6th over: First maiden in the game for India as Bumrah is bowling well forcing Burns to play consistently. Burns 7, Sibley 2. England 10-0.

7th over: Good over from Sharma as he got his first maiden in the game. India have now got two maiden’s in a row. Burns 7, Sibley 2. England 10-0.

Ravichandran Ashwin is now going two bowl for India and introduce spin.

8th over: Good first over from England against Ashwin scoring the first boundary in the innings and scoring six runs in the over. Good signs from England playing against spin after a lot of the players struggled against the Sri Lanka spinners on their previous tour especially Lasith Embuldeniya. Burns 8, Sibley 7. England 16-0.

9th over: Good over for England scoring two runs with both batsman doing well at the moment against a very good bowling attack. Burns 9, Sibley 8. England 18-0.

10th over: Burns is playing against spin well early on scoring two runs in the over and judging the spin well and the ball is hitting the middle of his bat consistently. Burns 11, Sibley 8. England 20-0.

Bumrah is back in the bowling attack for his side.

11th over: England was able to score five runs in the over. India had a chance at a runout but Shahbaz Nadeem missed the stumps. Burns 12, Sibley 12. England 25-0.

12th over: Ashwin is looking more dangerous in the over with the only run in the over was from an edge from Sibley with the last ball in the over. Burns 12, Sibley 13. England 26-0.

13th over: England are looking good as the pitch isn’t giving the Indian bowlers a lot to work with. Both batsmen are rotating the strike well. Burns 13, Sibley 15. England 29-0.

14th over: Sibley does well in the over by scoring a brilliant boundary flicking the ball through mid-wicket. Sibley is looking more confident after scoring a half-century in Sri Lanka in his last innings. Burns 13, Sibley 19. England 33-0.

15th over: Another good over for England being able to rotate the strike and consistently score runs. Burns 15, Sibley 20. England 37-0.

16th over: Better over for Ashwin only going for one run in the over. Burns in looking good today for his side. Burns 16, Sibley 20. England 38-0.

The left-arm spinner Nadeem is now bowling for India. In the last series England struggled against a left arm spinner, Embuldeniya.

17th over: Good first over from England against a left arm spinner scoring seven runs in the over. Good to see Sibley score a boundary in the first over against Nadeem. Burns 19, Sibley 24. England 45-0.

18th over: Burns looking confident today especially against the spinners. This is a good opening partnership compared to the Sri Lanka series where openers Crawley and Sibley struggled. Burns 22, Sibley 24. England 48-0.

19th over: Better over from Nadeem only going for one run in the over with Burns flicking the ball to the leg side. Burns 23, Sibley 24. England 49-0.

50 PARTNERSHIP FOR ENGLAND: Burns and Sibley and reached the 50 partnership and are looking good so far for England. They have played well against spin which was a big worry for England.

20th over: Only two runs scored in the over but those runs bought up the 50 run partnership. They will be happy with how they have started in the game. Burns 25, Sibley 24. England 51-0.

21st over: Only one runs scored in the over with the last ball in the over with Sibley maintaining the strike in the over. Burns 25, Sibley 25. England 52-0.

22nd over: Ashwin looked dangerous in the over and Burns gloved his first boundary in the innings. The bowler also found the outside edge of Sibley as well. Burns 29, Sibley 26. England 57-0.

23rd over: Nadeem bowled well in the over but will be disappointed not getting a maiden due to a no-ball. Burns 29, Sibley 26. England 58-0.

WICKET FOR INDIA: Burn mishit a reverse sweep and a gifts a slight edge for an easy catch for Pant behind the stumps. Burns out for 33 runs bowled Ashwin caught Pant.

Dan Lawrence is now in for England pushed up the batting order to number 3.

24th over: Burns was looking good in the over scoring a boundary off the first ball then out of no where attempted the reverse sweep and got out. Lawrence was able to defend the last ball in the over. Sibley 26, Lawrence 0. England 63-1.

25th over: Maiden over from Nadeem as England are looking to recover after losing the wicket of Burns. Sibley 26, Lawrence 0. England 63-1.

Bumrah replacing Ashwin to bring back pace into the game.

WICKET FOR INDIA: Bumrah gets the wicket of Lawrence as the ball hits his pads dead in front of the stumps. Lawrence out for 0 LBW Bumrah.

The England captain Joe Root is now in on his 100th Test match. He will he hoping to get his side into such without losing anymore wickets.

26th over: Good over from Bumrah getting the wicket of Lawrence. Root was able to get off the mark with his first ball. Sibley 26, Root 1. England 64-2

27th over: Root almost run out in the over but survives as England lose no more wickets in the session. Sibley 26, Root 4. England 67-2

Thats the end of the session with India getting two late wickets and will be happy with the session. Silly shot from Burns with lunch approaching to get out and Lawrence out for a duck. Ashwin and Bumrah with the wickets.

Both sides are coming out for the afternoon session with Bumrah bowling the first over in the session.

28th over: Root was able to maintain the strike by scoring a single with the last ball in the over. Sibley 26, Root 6. England 68-2.

29th over: Another over where Root scored the only run in the over. England need to get through the first few overs in the session as India will put a lot of pressure on the batsman. Sibley 26, Root 7. England 69-2.

30th over: Only one run in the over which was a no ball. The run rate has slowed down since England lost two wickets. Sibley 26, Root 7. England 70-2.

31st over: Sibley was able to score his first few runs in the session. Sibley is looking to bat for hours and tire out the Indian bowlers. Sibley 28, Root 7. England 72-2.

32nd over: Good over from Root able to score a few runs off Bumrah who is getting the ball to reverse swing. Good contest at the moment between Root and the bowlers. Sibley 28, Root 11. England 77-2.

33rd over: Now there is a good contest between Root and Ashwin with the ball missing the outside edge of the England skipper in the over. Maiden for the Indian spinner. Sibley 28, Root 11. England 77-2.

Ishant is now bowling for India replacing Bumrah.

34th over: Good over from Sharma in his first over back on only going for one run scored by Sibley. Sibley 29, Root 11. England 78-2.

35th over: Ashwin is doing well to make things happen on the first day in this Test match as the ball just missed the outside edge of Sibley in the over. The spinners confidence has grown since the wicket of Burns. Sibley 30, Root 11. England 79-2.

36th over: Good over from Sharma making things difficult for Root to score runs. India have done well in maintaining the ball and getting it to reverse swing. Late appeal for LBW in the over but wasn’t given out. Sibley 31, Root 11. England 81-2.

37th over: Maiden for Ashwin putting the England batsman under pressure as the away side are struggling to score runs at the moment. Sibley 31, Root 11. England 81-2.

38th over: Another maiden for Sharma who is building the pressure on the England batsman who cannot score a run at the moment. Sibley 31, Root 11. England 81-2.

39th over: Brilliant boundary in the over from Sibley to end the cycle of maidens and release some pressure off the England batsman. Sibley 35, Root 11. England 85-2.

Nadeem is back in the bowling attack for India.

40th over: Good over for Nadeem back in the attack for India only going for one run. Sibley 35, Root 12. England 86-2.

Washington Sundar is bowling his first over in the game.

41st over: Important boundary from Root in the over which will help his confidence on his 100th Test match for England. Sibley 35, Root 17. England 91-2.

42nd over: Only a single scored in the over with run scoring one run in the over. Nadeem is looking good for India as a second spinner for India. Sibley 35, Root 18. England 92-2.

43rd: Root uses the reverse sweep for the first time in the game which leads to a boundary. Root is slowly getting a long in the innings. Sibley 35, Root 22. England 96-2.

44th over: Good boundary for Sibley in the over running down the ground for four. England will be happy to have survived the early overs in the session. Sibley 39, Root 22. England 100-2

45th over: Both batsman able to get singles in the over and continue scoring runs for their side. This partnership is huge for this game as England will need to score big to have a chance in winning this game. Sibley 40, Root 24. England 103-2.

46th over: Only one run in the over which was scored off the first ball in the over. It’s important for India to put pressure back on the England batsman. Sibley 40, Root 25. England 104-2.

47th over: Brilliant boundary by Sibley in the over who now has 44. The England opener looks a completely different player to the one who playing against Sri Lanka. Sibley 44, Root 26. England 109-2.

48th over: Good over for England with both batsmen scoring a boundary and Sibley is getting close to his half century. Sibley 48, Root 31 England 119-2.

49th over: Good over from Washington Sundar only going for one run in the over. India know they need to break this partnership. Sibley 48, Root 32 England 120-2.

Bumrah is back in the bowling attack for India.

50th over: Both batsman scored one run each in the over as Bumrah comes back in for India. Sibley 49, Root 33 England 122-2.

HALF CENTURY FOR SIBLEY: Brilliant 50 runs for Sibley, he’s been very patient today and done a good job for his team.

52nd over: Good over from Bumrah who’s yorker was well defended by Sibley. Root able to get another single in the over. Sibley 51, Root 34. England 126-2

53rd over: Kohli had to bring on Bumrah and Ashwin to slow down the run rate and try and break this partnership. Root and Sibley have stood strong so far. Sibley 51, Root 35. England 127-2

54th over: The Indian bowler are doing a good job in getting the England batsman to play and defend. England haven’t had many opportunities to leave the ball this innings. Sibley 52, Root 36. England 129-2

55th over: Root was able to score two boundaries and put pressure on India’s best spin bowler. Sibley 53, Root 44. England 138-2

Ishant Sharma is back in the attack for India.

56th over: Sharma has bowled well today not going for many runs. He almost found the outside edge of Sibley’s bat. However, he bowled another no ball for his side in the over. Sibley 53, Root 44. England 139-2

57th over: Good final over in the session for England as both the batsman survived. Sibley 53, Root 45. England 140-2.

Good session for England as they didn’t lose any wickets and Root and Sibley batted well adding to their score. Bumrah and Sharma looked dangerous as they have been able to get some reverse swing when bowling. England know they need to keep this partnership going for as long as possible.

61st over: Sibley was able to get a boundary in the over and but more pressure on the Indian bowlers. England are looking good at the moment making it hard for Kohli and and his side. Sibley 59, Root 55. England 157-2.

88th over: Maiden for Bumrah who has swapped ends who is now getting Sibley to consistently play at the ball. England just need to survive the final few overs without losing a wicket. Sibley 86, Root 127. England 261-2.

200 RUN PARTNERSHIP: Brilliant effort from Sibley and Root who have been able to get 200 runs.

REVIEW FOR ENGLAND: Sibley has been given out for LBW but he has reviewed the decision.

WICKET FOR INDIA: Sibley batted brilliantly today but is out in the last over of the day from a brilliant yorker from Bumrah. Sibley out for 87 LBW Bumrah.

A good days of Test cricket with Root being the player of the day again with another century. Sibley did well as a supporting act and was very unfortunate to be dismissed at the very end. Bumrah was able to get two wickets while Ashwin got one. Overall England will be happy with how they batted today. The partnership of Root and Stokes tomorrow is going to be huge for England and the Test match.
