Home   /   Hansi Flick believes 1-1 draw with Spain will give his side “self-confidence to score goals”.

Niclas Fullkrug’s 83rd-minute striker cancelled out Morata’s opener, meaning the European giants shared the points. Antonio Rudiger thought he had opened the scoring after 40 minutes, only to see his header ruled out for offside following a VAR review.

As a result of Costa Rica’s unlikely win over Japan, Germany need to beat Los Ticos with Japan failing to win against Spain in order to qualify.

Hansi Flick hoped his sides much-improved performance from their 2-1 defeat to Japan would boost the groups confidence.

“Things start to develop when you start to win so maybe this will give us a boost to give us the self-confidence to score goals. We know that this was just the first step and in the next match against Costa Rica we want to create the conditions so that we can go through to the round of 16.”

Flick also praised his teams all-around performance, blaming his side’s lack of finishing for them not winning.

Opposition manager, Luiz Enrique paid tribute to a “very special day” as it would have been his late daughter, Xana’s, birthday.

“It was a very special day for me and my family, for a long time, we have tried to live the situation with all normality. Our daughter is not with us any more but she lives with us every day.”

The 52 year old also praised veteran midfielder Sergio Busquets, urging the FC Barcelona legend to keep playing until next World Cup.

“People have been trying to retire him [Busquets] for so many years and I hope I can convince Busquets to play another World Cup because I’m sure we can improve when he is on the pitch.”
