Switzerland has done the impossible winning 3-2! The Rossocrociati have made headway to the Round of 16 in the wake of an exhilarating contest against the Serbians!
The Swiss unfolded the game strong, taking the lead in the early stages of the game through an immaculate finesse shot by Xherdan Shaqiri which found the back of the net in the 20th minute.
Serbia was quick to rally back grabbing the equalizer with a tidy finish from number nine Alexander Mitrovic in the 26th minute before a witty finish from Dusan Vlahovic put the Eagles ahead in the 35th minute.
All was well for the Serbians..or so they thought! Switzerland forward, Breel Embolo leveled the playing field once again with some profound poaching at the back-post to the close of the first 45!
The second half, however, saw the tides turn in the favor of the Swiss once again, as they displayed their experience and mettle.
A pass by Shaqiri to Ruben Vargas found the run of Remo Freuleur with a stellar back heel which saw Freuleur place the ball into the back of the net with an instinctive placement of the ball.
The Swiss all but punched their ticket to the next round.
Albeit a tremendous feat, an onerous challenge awaits them as they are set to face Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal!
