Massive clash in the Europa League today as two historical clubs face off in what is going to be an electric game of football. Feyenoord will be looking to get revenge for the 2023 Europa League final where Roma beat them 4-1 to take home the trophy, but in front of a strong home crowd they will be looking to cause an upset in this first leg.

Starting X11’s –

1′ They look to create an early lead as Nicola Zalewski bursts down the left only for his low cross to be cleared. Positive start for Roma.

2′ Yankuba Minteh tries to build something on the left side but it is comfortably defended by Gianluca Mancini.

3′ Early penalty shout for Feyenoord but referee dismisses this as the player went down very easily

5′ Zalweski is bundled down under intense pressure by Ramiz Zerouki, harsh from the ref to call a foul there

7′ Clumsy challenge from Mancini as Roma was building an attack. Which is then followed by a foul by Minteh on Roma’s goalkeeper who was taking his time getting the ball from under his feet.

8′ Good play from Roma as a long distance shot from Edoardo Bove is deflected for a corner. Paulo Dybala’s corner was lacking height as it was easily cleared on the front post.

10′ CHANCE FOR ROMA! What a pass from Dybala who plays through Pellegrini but well smothered by Timon Wellenreuther who had to time that perfectly.

11′ Zalewski is fouled but the ball from Pellegrini falls straight into the comfortable hands of the keeper

12′ Good buildup from Feyenoord which is eventually cleared by Rick Karsdorp for a corner, the following corner is claimed in the air by Mile Svilar

15′ Pellegrini’s free kick hits the top of the wall leading to a corner, a little too much on the corner and Bove couldn’t get his head on it

17′ BIG CHANCE ROMA! Lukaku finds himself free between the two centre half’s but his header is straight at the keeper, it could have been 1-0 here.

19′ Zalewski caught in possesion but tracks back to block a cross costing a corner. Following corner is a poor one as it flies over everyone heads.

21′ HE SHOULD’VE SCORED! Paixao weaves his way through the Roma defence but he drags his shot agonisingly close to the bottom left corner.

22′ Stengs cuts in onto his left and places a tame shot straight at Svilar.

25′ Feyenoord have got a foothold in this game sending another shot at Svilar and really creating good chances right now

26′ Poor from Zalewski as he is through on goal but tries to find Lukaku with a pass which is cleared by Feyenoord. Why didn’t he shoot?!

27′ ANOTHER CHANCE! Paixao is found fortunately but could only direct his header at the keeper through the sea of bodies.

30′ Great buildup by Roma with some lovely one touch passing, however the ball falls to Lukaku who is in an offside position.

34′ Roma struggle to clear the ball as it falls to Minteh who lashes at it but it is blocked by the defender

40′ CROSSBAR WHAT A SAVE! Zalewski plays it to the edge of the box for Paredes who lashes it toward the top right corner, but the outstretched glove of Wellenreuther tips it onto the bar.

45′ Dybala wins a corner off the keeper from a tight angle after an incisive pass, the following corner falls right to Lukaku whose bullet header is right at the keeper once again.

45+2′ GOAL GOAL GOAL! We have a breakthrough for Feyenoord the cross from Hartman falls perfectly for Paixao who is unmarked in the box. He forces the header into the ground giving the keeper no chance. 1-0 to Feyenoord

Second half begins:

47′ YELLOW CARD! Llorente brings down Ueda with some pulls on his shirt, this is a free kick in a dangerous area.

48′ The following free kick is hit straight at the wall, Bove took the front of this shot and went down injured

52′ The game has gotten a little scrappy here with neither team creating much as Roma are fouled in a promising position

55′ Roma are trying to build to an equaliser here but Feyenoord are matching them with some great defending.

57′ Dybala trying to orchestrate something here as another chance goes begging after a poor touch from Zalewski

58′ Poor touch from Spinazzola gave Minteh the opportunity to clear the ball for a corner, subsequent corner leads to nothing as it ends up all the way back at Svilar’s feet.

60′ Another good spell for Feyenoord as Minteh is toying with the Roma defence but he couldn’t get the shot off

FULL TIME Feyenoord 1 – 1 Roma

The visitors will be happy with the outcome of the game as they take a draw back to Rome where they have a very good record this season. The hosts however will believe they deserved a win here as they put Roma under relentless pressure. Feyenoord opened the scoring with a lovely header from Paixao, however Roma managed to hold out following Lukaku’s equaliser in the 67th minute putting them in a better position for the second leg with home advantage.
