At 10.10 am on Sunday, Formula 1 will race at Istanbul for round number 14 of the 2020 season, as Lewis Hamilton has the first match-point to win a record seventh World Drivers Championship.

As stated, Hamilton is very close to retaining his crown and can boast of his 85 points advantage over his teammate Valtteri Bottas. The Briton will need to have 78 or more after this weekend to claim the title.

However, quite astonishingly it was Lance Stroll who caught the headlines, as the Canadian got his maiden pole position in the wet. Very tough conditions produced surprising results, as the two Mercedes will start from further back than usual, with Hamilton in P6 and Bottas P9.

Max Verstappen and Stroll’s teammate Sergio Perez were also among the stars of qualifying, setting the second and third fastest times respectively.

Ferrari performed quite disappointingly. Considering the strong pace they showed on Friday, starting from P12 and P14 alongside the two McLaren cars is not what they had hoped for.

Renault managed to stick both cars into Q3, as together with McLaren and Racing Point, they are competing for the third-place spot in the constructors standings.

They are separated only by a point and the strong showing of Racing Point in qualifying may just make the difference in what seems to be a race with the finest of margins.

A very exciting Turkish Grand Prix is waiting ahead. Still uncertain weather conditions, a potential world title to win and a mixed grid mean that the race is all to enjoy.
