Excellent England outclass Ireland

A young and rotated England side put three past Ireland in a dominant display in preparation for their Nations League clash with Belgium.

Ireland started the game in aggressive fashion with two fouls in the first three minutes, one on Mason Mount, the other on Jack Grealish who represented Ireland 23 times at youth level.

Reece James crossed the ball into Bukayo Saka but the teenager’s shot was saved. England took the lead after Mount’s corner fell to the feet of Harry Winks, who sent the ball back in for Harry Maguire to score a header. 1-0 courtesy of the captain.

James was in the action again, the wing back squared it to Dominic Calvert-Lewin but Shane Duffy blocked the shot for a corner. Maguire nearly scored again, but Darren Randolph tipped the ball over the bar. Shortly after, Jadon Sancho made it 2-0 to England with a brilliant finish into the bottom right corner.

England went into halftime the better team. Four shots to Ireland’s zero, with all of England’s shots on target. A dominant display from the Three Lions.

England started the second half brightly with Saka sent through on goal by Mings, but the teenager’s shot hit the side netting. Saka was brought down in the box shortly after, Dominic Calvert-Lewin stepped up and buried the penalty into the top corner to make it 3-0 England.

Ireland managed their first shot on target with Alan Browne’s effort saved by Dean Henderson.
