Home   /   Cristiano Ronaldo creates history as his side won 3-2 in their World Cup Opener against Ghana.

Cristiano Ronaldo became the first man to score in 5 World Cups as Portugal defeated Ghana 3-2 in their opening World Cup game in Doha. Cristiano Ronaldo, Joao Felix and Rafael Leao each scored a goal for Portugal. Leao, a 23-year-old Portuguese international, scored his first-ever goal at the international level. Andre Ayew and Osman Bukari scored for the Ghanaian side.

Cristiano Ronaldo had a goal disallowed in the first half, which would have brought him one goal closer to breaking the record for most goals scored in the World Cup for Portugal.

Early on, in the 10th minute, Bernardo Silva allowed Ronaldo to go through the Ghanaian defense and Portugal had a chance to score. But a fine stop by the Ghanaian keeper denied the attempt. The first half revealed an organized Ghana as it was 0-0 at the half-time.

Joao Felix struggled throughout the first half, missing several opportunities. But his exquisite ball gave Portugal a chance at the penalty and he scored himself to give Portugal the lead, while Ghana came close to a tie thanks to a late effort from Inaki Williams, they were unable to pull it off.

The Portuguese team appeared annoyed from Ghana’s constant probing but they now sit comfortably on top of the Group H.
