Easter Monday plays host to a League One clash with huge title implications, as Sunderland make the trip to London Road to face Peterborough.

The Posh currently sit second in the league holding a game in hand over top of the table Hull City, which if won would give themselves the top spot.

They come into the game in good sprits, following a 1-0 victory away to Fleetwood Town. League top scorer Jonson Clarke-Harris scoring a late free kick to give The Posh the three points. The strike brings Clarke-Harris to 26 goals for the season, a stat that will worry the defence of any side in the division.

In fact Peterborough are also the overall highest scoring team in the league. They have put 66 goals past their opponents, results such as their recent 7-0 dismantling of Accrington Stanley certainly helping with their impressive scoring form.

However Peterborough may have met their biggest attacking challenge, as Sunderland currently boast the best Defence in League One. Conceding only 28 goals in 37 matches, it is no easy challenge to break down the Black Cat’s backline.

Sunderland come into Monday’s game in excellent form. The side are unbeaten in their last 11 league games, being the team to take home all the points in 9 of them.

Goals from Max Power, Aiden McGeady and Lynden Gooch saw The Black Cats defeat Oxford United, in a heated affair this past Friday. The win sees them just 2 points behind Peterborough, however with games in hand over both sides above them, there is a possibility Sunderland could be top of the table in the near future.

Previous Meeting:

Sunderland and Peterborough’s reverse fixture was very early on in the season. A Grand Leadbitter penalty the only thing separating them on the day. Both teams have really kicked it up a gear since then, putting on much stronger performances across the season. It’s going to be a closely fought game, but an entertaining one nonetheless.

Team News:

Peterborough don’t really have many selection issues, young defender Ronnie Edwards being the only major doubt for Monday’s fixture.

Sunderland will be without Jake Vokins, Bailey Wright and Tom Flanagan, all due to various injuries. We could also see the return of Denver Hume on Monday, after recently overcoming his own injury setback.

Match Prediction: Peterborough 2-2 Sunderland
