Will the pandemic cause your favourite Eastbourne Pub to close?

Eastbourne pub-goers are worried that drinking-up time at their favourite Eastbourne pubs may be arriving soon after rumours England may be following Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland into a “circuit-breaker” closure.

Some popular Eastbourne pubs look set to permanently close following the news that the financial impact of the pandemic means local watering holes cannot survive.
The Rodmill, The Mill, the Duke of Devonshire, Willingdon’s Toby Carvery and the Beachy Head pub are all looking at potential closures after their staff were put on redundancy consultation.

Takeaway alcohol stands like this one from Eastbourne in April will likely not appear again in the winter if a circuit-break lockdown occurs.

Since lockdown in March, new national and regional rules have been put in place to try and slow the spread of Covid-19; including forcing pubs in England to close at 10pm. These measures, say the British Beer & Pub Association in a letter to the Prime Minister, are likely to force many of its member’s establishments to close during this “bleakest of winters”.
