Brighton are looking to climb to 2nd in the Premier League when they host Southampton on Friday evening.

The Seagulls are in strong form, recording four wins and one loss in their last six league games, including home wins against Manchester City and Tottenham.

The Saints, meanwhile, are suffering. They sit rock-bottom of the league on four points – a further four points behind Crystal Palace in 19th.

Brighton-born Southampton manager Russell Martin is under pressure. His side are yet to collect any away points this season, although he believes results will come: “The players just have to keep giving us what they are giving us. We are so close, so competitive.”

Southampton were leading 2-1 against league-leaders Liverpool last weekend, but eventually lost 3-2. Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler called this a “warning,” and stated: “This league is so intense. There is no easy opponent.”

Hurzeler confirmed captain Lewis Dunk and Tariq Lamptey are back in the squad, whilst Ferdi Kadioglu remains a doubt. Carlos Baleba is unavailable after his red card against Bournemouth.

For Southampton, Adam Lallana is unavailable to face his former club. He joins an extensive list of sidelined players including Aaron Ramsdale, Jan Bednarek and Will Smallbone.
