Spartak Moscow v Rangers: Match Preview

Rangers will be without in form Ryan Kent as well as striker Kyle Lafferty for their Europa League group game against Spartak Moscow.

The Glasgow side are top of Group G, having already played out a goalless draw at Ibrox against Spartak last month. Steven Gerrard’s side are unbeaten in 11 games in Europe and will look to extend that with a win at the Otkritie Arena.

Villarreal who travel to Rapid Vienna are level on five points with the Gers and Spartak have three at the foot of the group.

The Russian outfit do have their own issues, with supporters feeling the unrest surrounding the team. Caretaker manager Raul Riancho, whose first game in charge was at Ibrox, has urged the supporters to stick with the team. Rangers will look to capitalise on the affairs in Moscow and use it as a motivation. Gerrard believes however that the key thing is how his players perform.

“The most important thing for me is what my players do and that we carry out the game plan that is given,” he said.

Left back Borna Barisic and midfielder Graham Dorrans are still sidelined, while Jamie Murphy is out for the season.

It is a must win for Spartak and they will be stubborn outfit to breakdown. Rangers will be looking to striker Alfredo Morelos for the goals, while Alan McGregor, who has been the stand-out performer for Rangers all season, will be looking for a second clean sheet in the group.

The game kicks off at 5:55pm GMT and is live on BT Sport.
