Marcus Rashford’s stunning free kick separated Chelsea and Manchester United in the Carabao cup 4th round to see the visitors into the quarter-finals.

Michy Batshuayi’s second half goal initially cancelled out Rashford’s 25th minute penalty but was soon undone when Rashford brought out his inner Cristiano Ronaldo.

Rashford scored arguably the best of his now 52 career goals with a free kick that was reminiscent of Ronaldo’s free kick versus Portsmouth.

Rashford’s penalty was the highlight of a dull and lifeless first half in which both teams mustered a grand total of two shots, one of which came from the aforementioned penalty.

In the second half Chelsea started far more dangerously than they left the second half, and in the 52nd minute had their first dangerous attack at United’s goal.

Christian Pulisic carried the ball towards the edge of the United penalty area and tried to play a dangerous ball into Hudson-Odoi but Brandon Williams was able to intercept. However, the youngster’s clearance fell to Christian Pulisic, but Marcos Rojo was able to block the shot.

Chelsea continued to look dangerous and eventually Batshuayi made this count as he broke past Harry Maguire and arrowed a shot into the bottom right of Sergio Romero’s goal.

This opened the game up and led to a far more exciting spectacle than the one served up in the first half.

The game culminated in Rashford’s free kick which will probably go down as the goal of round even when considering the goals from other fixtures in the round.

United will need to wait until Thursday morning to see who they will draw in the next round.
