Preview: Bournemouth v Newcastle United

By Luke Osman

Bournemouth welcome Newcastle United to the Vitality Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Cherries will be in a confident mood heading into this clash following their 2-0 win away at Huddersfield Town. Goals from Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser secured all three points for Eddie Howe’s side.

Newcastle, too, will be looking to continue in their winning ways. They overcame a 2-0 deficit to beat Everton 3-2 at St James’ Park last Saturday.

A second-half brace from Ayoze Perez after Salomon Rondon’s goal cancelled out Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Gylfi Sigurdsson’s strikes for the Toffees.

Bournemouth trio Steve Cook, Simon Francis and Lewis Cook will remain on the sidelines with long-term injuries. Adam Smith and Junior Stanislas will also miss out.

Meanwhile, Newcastle will be without Sean Longstaff following his season-ending knee injury. Fabian Schar will serve a suspension after picking up 10 yellow cards this season. Jamaal Lascelles and Rob Elliot are sidelined.

Bournemouth could move up to ninth place with a win, while their visitors could go ahead of their weekend’s opponents and into 12th, depending on goal difference.

The reverse fixture saw the Magpies take all the spoils courtesy of a brace from on-loan forward Salomon Rondon. Jefferson Lerma scored the Cherries’ only goal of the game.

Howe will be hoping that his team can have the last laugh on Saturday, however, as they go in search of their first ever Premier League win over Rafa Benitez’s side.
