Peterborough to finally get stadium back

After a long awaited 16 years, Peterborough United have finally announced the joint signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the council for the purchase of the ABAX stadium.

The MOU anticipates the sale is to be finalised in the upcoming months, with the owners wanting to upgrade the stadium to a standard suitable for the Championship.

“At Posh we remained focused on three key objectives,” said PUFC Chairman and co-owner Darragh MacAnthony. “Number one is to ensure Championship football and thrive once there, number two is to return to club control, and number three is to improve and expand our facilities and our youth system.”

Along with the basics of real estate transaction, the MOU places great importance on the investment in new and improved grass roots training facilities from U4’s all the way to the senior level around Cambridgeshire, with a strong focus on Peterborough.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed but the price is expected to be on “fair market value.”

The proposal also wants a major community development initiative that will hope to further develop the relationship between both the club and the community.

The club and City will work together and will focus on different things traditionally not found in the region e.g. sports science, digital arts, software, and other technologies.

This will be a pleasant and much-welcomed surprise to the fans of Peterborough which shows the club are moving in the right direction, and hopefully back to Championship football once again, as is shown below by what one lifelong Peterborough fan thought.
