By Jacob Panons

Macauley Bonne scored a brace to ensure that Leyton Orient stayed at the top of the table for another week as they beat Maidstone United 3-0 at home.

Jordan Maguire-Drew joined Bonne on the scoresheet as the former Brighton and Hove Albion man scored his first goal for Leyton Orient.

Maidstone had a chance to pull ahead 17 minutes in when Josh Taylor played the ball through to Michael Phillips but the midfielder rushed his shot which failed to test Dean Brill.

Maguire-Drew got the first goal of the game 35 minutes in when a long throw-in from Sam Ling was met by new signing Jamie Turley who flicked the ball onto the winger before he to rifled the ball into the net from 15 yards out.

Bonne managed to grab the second goal of the match 57 minutes in when a corner was hit back across goal towards the striker who thread the ball through a sea of legs and into the goal.

Elliot Romain had the best chance of the half for Maidstone when he muscled his way past a defender to keep the ball in play but he could only hit the side netting from a couple of yards out.

Bonne scored his second and Orient’s third of the game in the dying embers of the game with a well-placed penalty after James Brophy was brought down in the area.

The loss for Maidstone means they remain second bottom of the league while Leyton Orient sit top with 60 points.
