Juventus v Man United preview

By Matthew Watkinson

Jose Mourinho’s men travel to Turin to face Juventus, who could secure top spot in Group H after an unbeaten start to their European campaign.

The return fixture saw the Old Lady clinch victory at Old Trafford in what was a tight affair on Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to his former club.

Mourinho will be desperate for his side to pick up where they left off midweek in the Premier League after grabbing a late victory against high-flying Bournemouth, though the Reds will know the challenge they face is mighty.

Manchester United could see their Champions League hopes at risk of fading away with a loss in Turin, with a battle against Valencia for the remaining spot a likely outcome in Group H.

Massimiliano Allegri’s side looked assured in a convincing 3-1 win against Cagliari and the win puts them head and shoulders above any opposition in the league with the Italians looking rampant as ever.

Juventus have sailed to the top of Group H untouched and they will be keen to secure top spot in the group at such an early stage of the competition. A win on Wednesday night would put them eight points ahead of their opponents and safely through allowing Allegri to alter focus towards domestic competition.

Romelu Lukaku has failed to score in his previous nine appearances and after being left out of the squad against Bournemouth due to injury, his chances for Wednesday’s clash are unknown leaving Alexis Sanchez in pole position to lead the United frontline.

Captain Antonio Valencia and Marouanne Fellaini remain on Mourinho’s injury list, alongside 19-year-old Diogo Dalot who edges ever closer to a return and is unlikely to feature just yet.

Juventus have a wealth of injury setbacks with Douglas Costa and Blaise Matuidi likely to be absent after sustaining adductor and hip injuries. Mario Mandzukic will also be side-lined with an ankle injury that occurred in the reverse fixture.

Sami Khedira and former Chelsea winger Juan Cuadrado are in line to replace those who were injured at the weekend, with strength in depth not a problem for the Italian giants.

Juventus predicted XI: Szczesny, Cancelo, Bonucci, Chiellini, Sandro, Bentancur, Khedira, Pjanic, Dybala, Cuadrado, Ronaldo

Manchester United predicted XI: De Gea, Young, Lindelof, Smalling, Shaw, Herrera, Pogba, Matic, Martial, Rashford, Sanchez

Prediction: Juventus 2-0 Manchester United
