Ireland’s Basketball Prodigy: Aidan Harris Igiehon

By Jacob Panons

Aidan Harris Igiehon is the Irishman aiming to become only the second Irish-born player to grace the NBA.

Pat Burke was the first and only Irish-born player to play in the NBA but many scouts expect Igiehon to add to this list very soon.

Igiehon, who was born in Dublin to Nigerian parents, only touched a basketball for the first time when he was 12 yet he is still considered one of the most exciting players in high school basketball.

The 6’9 forward is currently ranked 36th in the ESPN’s ranking of high school basketball players, out of a pool of over 500,000 players.

Igiehon has recently committed his future to the University of Louisville where he will play for their basketball team, the Louisville Cardinals, once he completes his final year at Lawrence Woodmere Academy in New York.

The University of Louisville has produced many players who went on to play in the NBA including The Boston Celtics’ Terry Rozier and Donovan Mitchell from the Utah Jazz.

Igiehon will be eligible to be drafted into the NBA as early as 2020 if he chooses to.

Cheers mate. Hopefully he opens the door for more UK/Irish basketball players along with OG Anunoby.

The Irish Hulk is someone I’ve been following for a couple of years, didn’t expect to see him on this Overtime (he had a video series on an American outlet also named Overtime).

    Good read.
