iHeartRadio Music Awards 2018

The iHeartRadio Music Awards were held Sunday night (11th March) in Los Angeles, featuring performances from artists such as Eminem, Camila Cabello, and the DJ Khaled.  

Song of the Year

The winner of the Song of the Year award was Ed Sheeran with ‘’Shape of You’’. This is his first win at the awards, and it comes after he won the Global Success Award at the Brit Awards in February this year. He was up against “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, “Something Just Like This” by Coldplay and the Chainsmokers, Bruno Mars with “That’s What I Like” and DJ Khaled with “Wild Thoughts’’.

Female Artist of the Year

Taylor Swift won the award for Female Artist of the Year. The other nominations were Alessia Cara, Halsey, P!nk, and Rihanna. This is her 8th award from iHeartRadio, and her most successful year was back in 2016 when she won 4 awards.

Male Artist of the Year

The award for Male Artist of the Year went to Ed Sheeran. He was up against Bruno Mars, Charlie Puth, Shawn Mendes, and The Weeknd.

Best Duo/Group of the Year

Maroon 5 won the award for Best Duo/Group of the Year beating Imagine Dragons, Migos, Portugal. The Man, and The Chainsmokers. This is their second time winning this award, after they won the same award in 2016.

Best Collaboration

Something Just Like This” by The Chainsmokers and Coldplay won the Best Collaboration award. Other songs that were nominated were “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber, Maroon 5 featuring Kendrick Lamar with “Don’t Wanna Know”, “Stay” by Zedd and Alessia Cara and “Wild Thoughts” by DJ Khaled featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller.

Best New Pop Artist

The winner of the Best New Pop Artist was Niall Horan. This was the ex- One Direction member’s first of two awards that he won at this year’s awards. He was also up against Camila Cabello, Julia Michaels, Liam Payne and Logic.

Rock Artist of the Year

Metallica won the Rock Artist of the Year award at this year’s iHeartRadio awards. The other nominations were Foo Fighters, Highly Suspect, Papa Roach, and Royal Blood.

Dance Artist of the Year

The award for Dance Artist of the Year was won by The Chainsmokers. They retain their title after winning the same award at the ceremony last year. The nominations included Calvin Harris, Cheat Codes, Kygo and Zedd.

Hip-Hop Artist of the Year

Kendrick Lamar won the award for best Hip-Hop Artist of the Year, beating DJ Khaled, Drake, Future, and Migos. This comes after he won the best International Male Solo Artist at The Brit Awards this year.

R&B Artist of the Year

The nominations for R&B Artist of the Year were Bruno Mars, Childish Gambino, Khalid, Rihanna, and The Weeknd. The winner of this award went to Bruno Mars. On Sunday he won 3 awards including R&B Song of the Year and Most Thumbed-Up Artist.

Best Fan Army 

The winners of the Best Fan Army went to BTS Army- BTS. The South Korean boyband were up against fan armies including the likes of Arianators (Ariana Grande), Beliebers (Justin Bieber), Mendes Army (Shawn Mendes), Mixers (Little Mix) and Swifties (Taylor Swift).

Best Boy Band 

The winners of the Best Boy Band was BTS. In 2017 they named one of the 25 most influential people on the internet by Time Magazine. Other nominations included CNCO, In Real Life, PRETTYMUCH, The Vamps and Why Don’t We.
