Djokovic and Wawrinka to return

Novak Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka will both make their comebacks at the end of December, as they are scheduled to compete in an exhibition event in Abu Dhabi.

The former leader of the ATP’s ranking, Djokovic, ended his season shortly after Wimbledon in July, due to an elbow injury.

Switzerland’s Wawrinka has not played since August, as he suffered from a knee injury and had to undertake a minor surgery to make sure he will be able to come back next year.

Both players will be joined by Rafael Nadal, Dominic Thiem, Pablo Carreno Busta and Milos Raonic, for the three-day event.

This will be the beginning of the season for those players and the first tournament played before everyone heads Down Under for the Australian Open.

Both Djokovic and Wawrinka seem happy with the event they have chosen as the inauguration of next season.

‘’The line-up is very strong and it will be the perfect way to make my comeback and begin the season,’’ said the Serbian.

‘’The fans are amazing there and the draw is strong as always with a lot of great players. My recovery is going well and I can’t wait to be back on court,’’ added Wawrinka.

The Mubadala Tennis Championship will run from December 28-30.
