Chung claims first ATP title

Chung Hyeon won the inaugural Next Gen ATP Finals in Milan after defeating Russia’s Andrey Rublev 3-4(5), 4-3(2), 4-2, 4-2 in the final on Saturday.

Top-seeded Rublev lost his cool in the second set and was unable to stop Chung from claiming the title.

The South Korean showed some of his best tennis, not only in the final but during the whole tournament, winning all of his matches.

He reached the final after his win against the other Russian, seventh-seeded Daniil Medvedev in the first semi final on Friday.

Rublev on the other hand defeated Croatia’s fourth-seeded Borna Coric in straight sets during the second semi final.

‘’I am just really, really happy, because I don’t know how I won here in Milan,’’ said the 21-year-old South Korean after the final.

‘’I was playing much better than him. I was dictating the match, and then just because I let my emotion go out and everything changed because Chung, he was always there. He was always focused. He was always in the match. No matter if something went wrong, he was still fighting,’’ added Rublev, who did not hide his disappointment after the final.

Chung will now leave Milan with £296,000 prize money, but without any additional points to his ATP ranking.
