Liverpool picked up their first win at Old Trafford since 2014 to set up a top four race set to go to the wire, with Leicester and Chelsea still to play each other.

The visitors fell behind early when Bruno Fernandes’ shot was deflected in by Nat Phillips following Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s cut back.

Liverpool drew level on 34 minutes through a clever finish from Diogo Jota. The Portuguese’s shrewd flick turned Williams’ wayward shot past Dean Henderson.

The Merseysiders then took the lead thanks to an undefendable delivery from Trent Alexander-Arnold. The freekick was dropped into the back post where Roberto Firmino got round Paul Pogba to head in.

Firmino then doubled his account after shambolic United defending only seconds into the start of the second half. United failed to clear twice before Alexander-Arnold’s shot was fumbled by Dean Henderson into Firmino’s path.

After huge Liverpool pressure United got a foot back in the game when Marcus Rashford slotted past Alisson from Edinson Cavani’s through pass.

However, the game was killed in added time when Salah raced away to slot past Henderson after Nemanja Matic surrendered possession on the half-way line.

It could’ve been different though when pinball in the Liverpool box nearly saw United draw level with Mason Greenwood seeing two shots cleared off the line which would’ve brought the game level.

The visitors thought they’d won a penalty just before the half hour mark after Eric Bailly’s challenge on Nat Phillips. However, VAR replays showed Bailly clearly won the ball and was subsequently over-turned.
