Billy Joe Saunders vs Marcelo Esteban Coceres Fight Preview

By Callum O’Connell

Billy Joe Saunders will defend his WBO super-middleweight title against Marcelo Esteban Coceres on November 9th, on the undercard of the ‘YouTube boxing’ fight between KSI vs Logan Paul.

Saunders goes into the fight as the heavy favourite with the bookies, coming in at 1/100, while Coceres is a huge outsider with PaddyPower offering odds of 20/1. BJS boats a 100% record, having won all 28 of his professional bouts (13 by knockout), while MEC has won all but one, with 28 wins and one draw.

In May, Billy Joe Saunders looked impressive as he beat Shefat Isufi on unanimous decision to claim his WBO Super-Middleweight title, and Saturday’s fight will be his first defence of the belt. This will also be his first fight in the U.S.A. and it will be intriguing to see whether either of these factors affect him as much as they have other fighters (notably Anthony Joshua when he faced Andy Ruiz.)

Both fighters will be hoping that fighting on the undercard of a fight that is so eagerly anticipated by fans of the two main card YouTubers will increase the interest in them, and boost their profile to a new, majority younger audience.

It takes place at the Staple Centre in L.A on November 9th 2019, on a card which includes Devin Haney vs Alfredo Santiago for the WBC Lightweight Championship, and is available to watch in the United Kingdom and Ireland via Sky Sports Box Office.
