Atletico Madrid v Borussia Dortmund preview

By Jack West
Borussia Dortmund currently sit top of this season’s Champions’ League Group A as they head to the Spanish capital to face 2nd placed Atletico Madrid in the first of the Match-day four reverse fixtures.
Lucien Favre‘s men come off the back of inflicting Diego Simeone’s biggest defeat as Atleti coach after a 4-0 rout at Signal Iduna Park on Match-day Three, with English youngster Jadon Sancho amongst the goals to secure maximum points so far for BVB in this season’s competition.
Despite a rare, dismal defensive display from an Atletico side in the earlier meeting, Simeone’s side will be looking to seek some form of redemption as they lay just three points behind their opposition when they kick off on Wednesday night. Los Rojiblancos have lost only two of their last 16 matches in continental competition.
Spanish forward Paco Alcacer, who’s currently on loan at Dortmund, has really hit the ground running at his new club with eight goals in six appearances so far this season, averaging a goal every 37 minutes. Alcacer will look to carry on this vein of form against a defence he has only put one goal past before.
Atletico will enter the game as favourites courtesy of the home advantage but Dortmund have the slight historical advantage, with three wins from their previous five encounters.
