Akhisarspor v Sevilla: Match Preview

By Luke Osman

Sevilla will be hoping to distance themselves from Krasnodar and Standard Liege at the top of Group J when they travel to Akhisarspor in the Europa League.

Pablo Machin’s men are currently on six points from their first three games but are level with Krasnodar and Standard. A trip away to bottom-placed Turkish outfit Akhisarspor presents them with a golden chance to tighten their grip on the top spot.

Akhisarspor have endured a difficult start to the domestic campaign and sit in 16th place on the Turkish Super Lig table. Sevilla, meanwhile, are flying high and are third in La Liga.

In the reverse fixture at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, Los Hispalenses turned in a dominant display and defeated Akhisarspor 6-0. Roque Mesa, Pablo Sarabia, Luis Muriel, Quincy Promes and Gabriel Mercado’s strikes along with an own goal from Milan Lukac helped Sevilla to a comprehensive victory.

Ahead of their home fixture with Sevilla, Akhisarspor have some fitness worries. Serginho and Jeremy Botika look set to miss out, with centre-back Dany Nounkeu also nursing an injury.

Sevilla are not without their share of injuries, however. Maxime Gonalons, Andre Silva, Simon Kjaer and Mercado could all be sidelined for the trip to Turkey, with Machin likely to rotate his side ahead of their La Liga clash with Espanyol.

Akhisarspor are enduring a torrid domestic and European campaign but will know that if they are to stand a chance of progressing from Group J, they will need to secure a win against Sevilla.
